Alcest/ Monarque/ Thantifaxath @ Hard Luck Bar, Toronto ON, April 23, 2010

For the first time in a great many shows, I actually sat down during a performance. I sat not because I was bored, not even because I was tired. I sat because the energy it took to operate my legs felt like energy I could be directing towards my ears. I sat on a table top with my eyes closed, rocking back and forth unconsciously, entirely consumed.

Ludicra / Krallice / Empyrean Plague @ Rancho Relaxo, Toronto ON, April 14, 2010

I don’t want to in any way cheapen Ludicra’s performance here by saying that they performed “admirably under the circumstances.” They flat-out fucking rocked. They are tough, tenacious, and have a mind-blowing stage presence. Their vocalist, Laurie Sue Shanaman, filled the meagre space with her otherworldly voice.

Immortal / Eclipse Eternal / Panzerfaust @ The Opera House, Toronto, ON, March 27, 2010

Immortal never failed to acknowledge the momentous occasion that their appearance was for the diehards in the crowd. From their frequent praising of the crowd to Abbath’s invocation of fan worship during “Tyrants,” the band’s antics never failed to garner overly-excited cheers from fans who had obviously been long bursting a gut to see their heroes in the flesh. While there was no fire-breathing to be had, Abbath and company didn’t fail to prove their musical chops.

VIDEO INTERVIEW: Cauldron at Hellbound Radio (Part 1)

On Sunday, February 28th, Hellbound Radio was delighted to have some special guests in the studio. Jason Decay and Ian Chains make up two-thirds of Toronto metal trio Cauldron and they made the trip down the QEW to Hamilton and hung with us in the INDI 101 studios, so we in turn dedicated a huge chunk of the three hour show to their band.

Type O Negative @ Harpo’s, Detroit MI, October 31, 2009

By night’s end it was clear that the Harpo’s Halloween crowd had been treated to one of the strongest performances from Type O Negative in recent memory. What else other than perfection could one expect from a band whose set featured multiple songs about Halloween and fucking vampires?

Jonathan Smith recaps Type O Negative’s Halloween extravaganza at Detroit’s Harpo’s Concert Theater.

Dethklok/Mastodon @ Sound Academy, Toronto ON, October 23, 2009

With the completion of the second season of Metalocalypse, Dethklok took the road for a full North American tour with co-headliners Mastodon and strong support acts Converge and High on Fire. For a band that seems far from serious, they put together quite the heavyweight lineup, casting some of the top live talents to join them on their conquest for real-life world domination.

Adam Wills reviews the recent Toronto tour stop by Dethklok, Mastodon and friends.
