AMATEUR CONCERT PHOTOGRAPHY HOUR: MONOLORD/The Death Wheelers/Low Orbit @ The Garrison, September 3, 2018

On a hot September’s night, Swedish doomsters Monolord made their second Toronto appearance to a sizeable, sweaty crowd at The Garrison–with some solid Canadian support from labelmates The Death Wheelers and local stoner rock stalwarts Low Orbit. Not a bad way to spend Labour Day, eh?

Low Orbit have opened for a ton of touring bands in Toronto these past few years–I’ve seen ’em more times than I can count, and they don’t disappoint. Their straight-forward, spacey stoner rock jams got the show off to a solid start.

The Death Wheelers are an instrumental biker doom outfit from Quebec City, of all places. I’m pretty sure somebody sent me a promo not too long ago, but I puff-puff passed on it. I might wanna dig that one out, though–if their live set was any indication, it could be in the running for my Canadian Top 10 list this year!

With their stacks of Orange amps, Monolord brought the volume–and the intensity–up a couple notches. I can still dig these guys on record, but live, they sound much more crushingly hypnotic. One of the heaviest sets I’ve seen this year…
