While Heaven Wept

ProgPower USA 2011 @ Center Stage, Atlanta, GA September 15th to 17th, 2011

Although he almost missed it – please see inside for all the details – Hellbound’s Rob Kachluba finally made it back to Atlanta GA earlier this month for this year’s edition of the ProgPower USA Festival. Here is Rob’s recap of the three days that he was in attendance at the fest, which included performances by Evergrey, Sanctuary, Ihsahn, Haken, While Heaven Wept, Forbidden, Therion and many more.

While Heaven Wept – Fear Of Infinity

I can’t say enough how unique and epic this band is. Sure , they may have lost a lot of their doom but I think this has made them even more of a better band. It gives the music and riffs much more room to breathe and I find there is a lot more varation on the tempos that has helped modernize their sound without falling into any trendy sterotypes.

Atlantean Kodex – The Golden Bough

With a handful of underground EPs, splits and live albums under their belts, this first full-length studio offering from Atlantean Kodex will
have the armour-clad, sword-wielding power-metal warriors and the downtrodden doomsters slow-motion headbanging in unison.

While Heaven Wept: Vast Oceans Lachrymose

If you want to hear passionate music played by dedicated musicians that have been reworked and reworked again and again into perfection (some of the tracks go back as far as 95), the final results are proof that this will be one of my absolute faves of 09 and possibly one of the greatest melodic doom metal albums of our time.
